It is ironic how many people who are desperate and starving for extra energy, eat in a way that severely hampers their chances of getting more energy when you need it. And yet, on a daily basis, how many people reach for a candy bar, devour it, and rarely seem to make a connection to why they experience so many frequent energy crashes? What’s worse is how many health nuts with good intent mind you, turn to healthy fruit smoothies as the answer to instant energy in a glass.

"News report MIT students drop piano 7 stories"
One might think that drinking down one of the many varieties of good for you, healthy fruit smoothies would solve both problems - and they would be WRONG!
Saying that eating fruit will fill you with loads of energy to burn is definitely a sweeping generalization and one that even “experts” claim to be the solution to those suffering from energy loss. But, it is only a half truth. A healthy, fresh fruit smoothie, even if all organic, all natural, etc., is not the complete answer. Much like eating that sinfully-good candy bar, partly because of the convenience and on-the-go factor, downing a fruit smoothie simply is a healthier way to lead to your next energy crash, more often than not.
What I am about to reveal to you, few people write about. At least, it seems that many who are writing articles on the internet these days are establishing themselves as experts only by reading articles on the internet, rather than living the life, and writing from experience. Writers who regurgitate already old information, talk the talk about being healthy, but secretly devour cheeseburgers, fries and milk shakes like there was no tomorrow. This is how bad information quickly snowballs, only to do more damage to the real people seeking quality solutions for their problems.
Healthy fruit smoothies definitely pack an energy punch, but if you just toss ingredients into your blender willy-nilly, qualifying the inclusion of each with, “..this should have a lot of energy in it,” You are falling into the trap of the majority. What you are missing in your healthy fruit smoothies is not energy, but the quality and long lasting ability of that energy. BIG difference.
Green Drink Energy That Doesn’t
Taste Like Lawn Clippings
The secret to still drinking your favorite smoothie, loaded with your favorite fruit? The secret to getting maximum efficiency and long lasting energy that does NOT lead to energy crashes shortly after their consumption? Balance. A term most experts including those who write smoothie books with all those pretty, glossy pictures, are completely BLIND to, and is a Red-Flag that the author really is not an expert, nor does he or she LIVE the life.
Creating balance in your energy creation is vital. This is true of your fruit smoothies, yes, but all eating: what ’s on your plate, or what’s in your blender - at least if ENERGY is really what you are looking for. Look, I could stand behind you with a hot poker and stab you when you started to look tired and you’d perk right up, but just because it satisfies your temporary need, does not mean it is what you want.
All living foods have energy. Bread does not. At least in this comparison anyway. You don’t see marathon runners downing a loaf of bread before the big race, do you? Certainly not if the objective is to win.
Fruit has energy, some more than others, but in combination you could have TONS of energy, in fact too much, a complete overload, ironically. Establishing balance to create long lasting energy is as simple as adding an ingredient to slow down the fruit energy in your body. Don’t see many experts telling you the way to get more energy is to actually cut back on the energy you consume do you? (Hmm…wonder why that is?).
Green Drink Secrets
From A Juicing Fanatic
What is the magic, missing ingredient? Vegetables. More specifically, and ideally, greens! And just to be on the safe side, let me state that adding vegetables to a fruit smoothie does NOT mean you will be tasting “lawn clippings” if you do it right. But, let’s add something as simple and basic as celery juice. A green. (Spinach, or romaine lettuce might be too green for beginners). A few stalks of celery (juiced, not just added to your blender) would create the kind of balance that on average a fruit smoothie is completely void of.
Another easy fix is to buy a quality green powder. Two that I personally use in my smoothies (I add greens in one form or another to 90% of my own smoothies) are: Garden of Life’s Perfect Food (about $40 for 30 servings) or sometimes I’ll add straight Spirulina (preferred choice is Organic, Spirulina Pacifica from Nutrex, about 30 servings). You certainly can find each online, or at any established health food store. If you can’t find either locally, a substitute could be Magma Plus made by Green Foods, around $20 - $25, but in my opinion, definitely not nearly the same quality as my two favorites mentioned.
Regular searches on ebay can find all the above (sometimes - and if you are lucky - it depends on the day of the week) for DEEP DISCOUNTS: as in finding green powder selling at below cost prices, like you were buying bulk. Green powders on ebay are a regular thing, in fact. I just checked, and found more than a few listings for WHOLESALE green powder - - you just gotta be savvy enough to know what you are buying.
Now, allow me to warn you NOT to go overboard with the addition of the green powders. Good for you? Absolutely! But, if you are not clean as a whistle on the inside, they could shock your system. Definitely go slow, if you eat fast food or highly processed food on a regular basis. Despite what people will tell you, usually in print, too much of a good thing can be BAD for you. Believe it or not.
How potent is this stuff? Take the Spirulina for example. Just ONE TEASPOON has 3 grams of protein! Think about that tiny amount compared to a shovel-full of protein powder that is artificial and gives you gas (and sugar as a bonus). Notice, I said teaspoon, which is about the size of the tip of your pinkie finger!
Take your favorite fruit smoothie and add either some green juice to it (romaine lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumber, parsley, green pepper, etc. juiced) or choose a quality green powder that combines many greens (Garden of Life has about 50 - - Yes! I said FIFTY! - - greens included) and include it with each fruit smoothie you make.
Such balance, will curb energy crashes. Thus, providing long term energy throughout the day, not just sending you straight up like a rocket - for what goes up, must come down. That’s science, not theory. Of course, it is up to HOW you eat that determines if you come crashing down like a grand piano dropped from a roof, or if you are in complete control. Such predictability is worth it frankly.
