Comparing A Juicer To A VitaMix

As just mentioned on the juicing and natural health blog, here's the audio recording comparing buying a juicer versus a Vitamix (Vita-Mix).

This was a dilemma I faced when I decided to sell juicers for a living. I bought both the whole line of juicers (blender and dehydrator included) from L'Equip, and also a couple of Vitamixes., trying to decide the best choice for my potential customers. *Side note: I no longer am in the juicer business, but still extract the wisdom I learned from those years...

My audio recording below is about 24 minutes long, and since I did this at (now pushing 4:08 a.m. EST) I decided to listen to some music simultaneously while talking to my juicing tips subscriber, Melissa, who asked this question of me, this evening (October 9th 2008):

I want your opinion between juicing versus blending veggies/fruits whole in a vitamix or something similar? Is there that much of a difference to the body?

All background music has been removed, and all the third time is evidently the charm, I managed to only shave a whopping 2 minutes off the length.

In this juicer versus Vitamix comparison and conversation here's what I discuss:

• First we discuss some basics, which Melissa might know, but since my responses benefit other subscribers and onlookers, I start at the beginning.
   
• My immediate pros and cons for the Vitamix.
   
• The "magic question" to know the answer to that will decide if you should go the juicer route, or more of the Vita-mix blender route.
   
• Then I dig into the pros and cons, upside/downsides in a little more detail, to explain how something I may not want at all in a juicing appliance, might very well be exactly what you are looking for.
   
• And a few other extras.
